I will be updating this page regularly. I will send out emails letting you know when it is updated.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM - ALL MY STUDENTS - I assign a lot of assignments through Google Classroom. Google has recently added a feature where parents can receive daily or weekly updates on assignments. If you want to receive those updates, please reply to the email and let me know, I have to invite you through Google Classroom.
This past week we studied our theme verse for the year, Micah 6:8. The students made posters to illustrate the three actions in this verse - Act Justly, Love Mercy and Walk Humbly. You can ask your child which of these was theirs and what each of them means. Those posters are hanging in the hall for viewing.
We also looked at the GOSPEL acronym. Students used a website called Auto Motivator to create a digital poster of one of the letters. I will be compiling those when they are all finished and sharing a Google presentation of them.
This coming week we will get study in our religion textbook, do a little Bible Study activity and start our Character Formation Project (CFP) work with the study of creation.
MEMORY - memory work can be found on the 5th Grade Discipleship tab on this website. Each week students are responsible for saying memory at home. Parents/Guardians should then email me when the memory work has been said satisfactorily at home. Try saying a little each night that will help!
A memory week starts on Monday and is due on the following Sunday. Parents/guardians can email any time during the week.
This past week we went through lessons 1 and 2. Those grades are in Educate (The old Cornerstone). This coming week we will continue our lessons. Our first test will not be until after lesson 10. Then the tests will come after every 5 lessons.
Everyday I will update the Math Menu on this website. It will have the lesson number and problems we are did for that day. Students can make sure they the right assignment here. Also, if students are absent, they can look here after about 9:30 to see the assignment.
GRADING - I grade math a little differently. All daily assignments from the textbook are only worth 5 points, regardless of the number of problems assigned. Students who earn 80% or higher on a daily assignment will receive a 5/5 in the gradebook. Students who earn 60 - 79% will receive a 4/5 in the gradebook. (40 - 59% = 3/5 and so on) I do this for a number of reasons. First, I am trying to remove some of the fear of getting problems wrong in math. I also am trying to encourage the students to TRY all the problems. Tests and other supplemental assignments will be graded in the normal fashion. If you have any questions, please let me know. Tests will be worth 40 points, or the equivalent of 8 assignments.
XTRAMATH - students were introduced to this website this week. They should have brought home a letter about how you as parents can follow along. This will be a weekly assignment worth 5 points. Students are to log on everyday and practice their math facts. I will be adjusting it to each individual child's level after I see their placement test. THAT PLACEMENT TEST IS EXTRA CREDIT IF THEY COMPLETE IT THIS WEEKEND.
7th Social Studies
Welcome to 7th grade Social Studies. We will be studying the Medieval World and Beyond. (Hey that's name of our textbook too!) We will be doing a lot of in class simulations and activities, along with some lecture, quizzes, notes, test, and much more!
This past week we started our first map work of the year. Each unit there will be a map test of the area in the world we are studying. I do this so that the students have context for the region of the earth we are currently studying, but also to help them with some understanding of where current world events are taking place.
Their first map work is over the United States. They will have to know the 50 states, 25 capitals (that they choose), and 25 physical features (that I choose). They were given a map to create a key, or study aid, last week. Those maps are due on Wednesday (Adler) or Thursday (Spangler). Tests will be the following week, on the 30th (Adler) or 31st (Spangler).
God's blessings on your week!
