This week we looked at the story of Abram and Sarai and their plan to speed up God’s plan with Sarai’s servant Hagar. We talked about this in CFP as well as our Bible study time. We also talked about the covenant God established with Abraham and how important it is to honor God in all we say and do. (Integrity)
FAMILY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What joys are received by staying true to God and His promises?
What are some ways God has delivered on promises for you in the past? How does that help you stay true to him now and in the future?
Students also started a Faith Portfolio Google presentation. We will be adding slides to this presentation all year. Ask your child to see their “Who am I?” and “Armor of God” slides.
Next week we will talk about Abraham and the sacrifice of Isaac as it relates to self-sacrifice.
5th SERVICE PROJECT
A reminder that each 5th grader needs to do a service project each quarter. The students all have this “assigned” to them in Google Classroom. Once they complete the project they can complete the brief write up that is attached to the assignment. Include a picture if you can!
Next week’s memory is:
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 (ESV)
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. John 6:47
As well as two verses of My Faith Looks Up to Thee
We took test #2 this week. Those should be graded and in Educate over the weekend. We will continue with lessons into next week and should be ready for test three by Tuesday, September 27. YEAH!
Students need to be keeping up their math notebooks. Each day we take notes they need the lesson number, the title of the lesson and our notes and examples. Notes over 11 - 15 will be checked next test day.
Don’t forget to keep up with xtramath as well!
5th NEWSPAPER (**New Section**)
This week we finally got to the actual assignment of writing our first story. Students are to write a ROGH DRAFT for editing. (See what I did there?) This is to be about their Olympic topic. Students need to have a headline, lead paragraph and 1 other paragraph ready for editing next Thursday.
Students should be reminded of the following things regarding newspaper writing:
-write a headline, not a title
- 30 word lead paragraph
- get the who, the what, the when, the where, and the why in the lead paragraph
- remember the inverted pyramid writing style
- remember this is a ROGH DRAFT. There will be mistakes (See what I did there?)
7th SOCIAL STUDIES
Students applied for a town charter this week. (or on Monday 9/19 for Mr. Spangler’s class) They had to work in groups and fulfill all the king’s requirements for a charter. I was impressed by the creativity and diligence shown by all the groups.
We will finish up life in medieval towns next week. QUIZ OVER CH. 4 COMING.
Then we will finish up this unit with the end of feudalism and then we’ll be ready for our first unit test. That will probably happen the week of 9/26.
Blessings on your weekend.
