The 4th graders visited us this past week from the elementary campus. Our fifth graders did a GREAT job of hosting them. They showed them a few places around the school, helped them fill out some questions about 5th grade and partnered with them for some games and science fun. It was great to see the students thrive in a leadership role.
This past week the students were working on making up clues and locks for a Bible Breakout. This is where the students are making up clues about how to open different types of locks. Each fifth grade is designing one for the other to try to crack. We will do this Tuesday. Watch for pics on Twitter!
MEMORY - this week is the Office of the Keys and one verse of Come, Thou Almighty King
We are getting into the new and more difficult material of the year. (Both groups.) Really be diligent about getting your homework finished and trying all the problems. Be sure to show your work. It makes it so much easier to help when I can see what is going on in your mind. Also - this is why I have been trying to get the students to be more self-sufficient in math this year. Their first line of attack when they encounter a problem they don't know should be to try it. Then they have notes (or at least they should have notes) about how to do the type of problem. Then they can go look at examples from the lesson it comes from in the book. (The little number in parenthesis) Feel free to use the line I always use - "I can't help blank boxes." They LOVE that.
Both groups will have a test on Friday. I will be reviewing a little differently with the MAP group this week to try to help a little more with the tough, new concepts.
7th Social Studies
This past week the students and I prepared for and took their test. I will be getting to grading those as soon as I finish this here update. Look for those grades in Cornerstone by the next time I have class. (Monday or Tuesday) These were a little more writing intensive, so they take a little longer to grade.
We started working on our Reformation unit. The students have (or will) started their own #reformation16 of the school system. We looked at some things that are wrong with school in general and this coming week, along with the material on the Reformation, we will be researching other school systems around the world to learn about them and see how they do it.
Blessings on your week!
