WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!
I am very excited to get going this year. I will be sending a weekly update highlighting what went on the past week, any big tests and/or projects coming up, assigning the memory and adding any other important news.
Parents should check our class website - www.cclsakerson.weebly.com FIRST for the daily math and/or discipleship assignments. They are available under the appropriate subject’s tab. I will update this daily. Educate will only be updated when the assignment is due and I check to see who has turned it in.
(7th grade families can scroll down to find their update.)

Students will be required to complete some service hours during each semester. Along with this, our class will complete a service project together.
The middle school homeroom teachers are in the process of finalizing all the details and we will have all the specifics out as soon as possible.
This week in math we got rolling with lessons and how to be successful in my math class. I really work with the students on the rule of “3 Before Me.” Before asking for help students should 1. TRY THE PROBLEM; 2. Look in their notebook for specific examples of that type of problem worked out and 3. Look in their textbook at the lesson the problem comes from for help.
Next week we’ll continue with regular lessons and start to talk about our first test which will be on (or around) September 1st (after lesson 10). After that first test, there will be a test after every five lessons.
Next week we’ll start our lessons in the Character Formation Project (CFP) We’ll start with a study of diligence in the story of God speaking to Samuel.
DEAR BOOK -
ALL students need to have a DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) book available to be kept in their locker. Mrs. Brown and I have some for check out if needed.
Mobymax.com is a website that will provide extra practice and content enrichment for 5th graders. They will be introduced to it and then Mrs. Brown and I will assign them topics (math, spelling, problem solving, etc) throughout the year.
I am VERY excited to use this site. (It is also an app) Seesaw is digital portfolio that allows parents “into” our classroom. This will allow for even better communication between home and school, as well as letting your child brag on themselves and share their work with you. It is our goal to update their portfolios once a week.
Watch for more information to come home next week.
Have you had a chance to look at THE GRID? Take a look and see if/where God is leading you to serve.

Welcome to Social Studies. We got going this week with a study of the 5 themes of Geography and working on our first map work. The students have the map of the United States due next week. (Wednesday for Adler and Thursday for Spangler) These are the first the first form of studying for the upcoming map test.
The first map test will be 50 states, 50 capitals and some features of the United States. Those test dates have been shared with the students. Mr. Adler’s class is on August 29 and Mr. Spangler’s class is on August 30th.
My first recommendation is for the students study a little each night before the test. We also talked in class about how to use the map work as a study aid.
Next week we will move into our first civilization study of the year - Rome.
Blessings on your weekend.
