Thank you to everyone for a great first quarter. I appreciate all the parent partnership that I get to experience while working with these amazing 5th and 7th graders.
5th GRADE FAMILIES
REMINDER - students intent to serve papers are due by OCTOBER 30th. This is simply a piece of paper, signed by a parent, that lists what the student plans to do for their 4 hours of service that is required by December.
In discipleship last week we looked more at the major life events of Martin Luther. This coming week, all discipleship time will be devoted to Martin Luther. Students will be creating a bulletin board all about the events in the Reformation.
We looked at Mr. Akerson’s favorite Bible story this past week, the story of Job. Students explored the integrity and respect Job showed during the sufferings in his life.
Memory for the upcoming week is Week 10: the fourth commandment and its meaning.
I had a great talk with each student individually as well as a discussion with the entire class about our upcoming math splits. We once again talked about how this is all based on learning style and about how God makes us all unique.
This coming week will be spent learning how the two math groups in one class works.
7th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
This past week we finished up our unit on Islam. There will be no unit test. The students big song project along with our in-class work will serve as my assessment of their learning of this material. They did a great job of listening and asking questions on Friday with our guest speaker.
We will be moving on to the Reformation. This is “out of order” for how my class usually goes. However, with the 500th anniversary of the event being celebrated this year, we are going to study it now.
There will not be a map test with this short unit.
Blessings on our short week!
