it is time to start thinking about the 4th quarter service project.
Students need to turn in a service project plan by Friday, April 6th. This plan is simply a piece of paper, signed by a parent, that lists what service will be done in the fourth quarter. Remember it only needs to be 2 hours.
I want to encourage students and families to think about serving the general community. There are many wonderful service opportunities available. Some highlights from 3rd quarter were - reading to dogs at the humane society, baking cookies for elderly, helping at a Special Olympics event, making bags of necessities to hand out to homeless people and serving at a soup kitchen.
In CFP class the 5th graders and I talked about how hard it can be to "fit one more thing in" our busy lives. However, during the story of Jesus healing the blind man, one of the main ideas we explored was the trait of self-sacrifice. I challenged the 5th graders to get something service oriented at least scheduled early in the quarter.
When they have completed their service hours, they need to fill out THIS FORM.
Please let me know if you have any questions
This past week and next week we will be studying the holy week story. Next week’s focus will be the death and resurrection. Students are working on a digital project, where they react to the events in the story as an inanimate object. These will be available to look at in their faith portfolio
If you have never looked at their faith portfolios, take a minute to do so. They have worked hard on these all year.
Week 29 is due Tuesday.
Next week’s memory is week 30 - Baptism 4th part.
Self pace is coming to the end of the 5th grade book. Keep working hard getting those notes done on a nightly basis.
Akerson pace is ahead of schedule and is on lesson 89.
Both groups will have tests coming next week.
We are also working hard to prepare for the SAT’s which are coming the week of April 16th.
This week students worked on decimals and fractions in the game. Each week I will assign a certain amount of problems to be completed over the week. This will be part of their weekly math grade. The problems are targeting certain skills that need reinforcement, or just more practice.
