I continue to be blessed by all the students and families here at CCLS. The students are fun, creative and energetic. We are always looking to improve. An area all students can work on improving is in self-control of actions and speech. This will be a focus for 2nd quarter.
This past week students worked on and turned in posters about the 6 Chief parts of the Christian Doctrine. These will be displayed in the hallway. Students in 5th Akerson will be sharing this with Mrs. Glackin's 3rd grade class via Google Hangout on Monday, October 26th.
This coming week in Discipleship we will be looking at Martin Luther's life and the events of the Reformation.
Memory for 2nd quarter is up and posted on the 5th Discipleship page. Please remember that memory needs to be learned and said at home. Parents can email me when the child has completed it or send in a note. I need confirmation of Memory work being completed by the Sunday of each week.
We are starting to get into some new and sometimes difficult concepts. A few reminders about math: 1. TRY - students need to try every problem. Before I help them in class, I make them try the problem. It helps me analyze where they are struggling better. 2. We will make mistakes. This is a GREAT way to learn. 3. TIMES TABLES - these are so important. We spend five minutes everyday working on times tables, via xtramath.com. Times tables are a big part of all the work students will do from here on out in math. Keep working hard to improve those skills.
We have been blessed to have Miss Sam Kersting in our class. She is getting her Masters in teaching at Lindenwood right now and has been in our class observing, helping and teaching some lessons. She is doing a great job!
This coming week both groups, Mr. Akerson paced and Self Paced will continue working on lessons and will be ready for their next test after the 3 day weekend.
7th SOCIAL STUDIES
Students are finishing up their big Islam projects this weekend. They are due on the 27th (Adler) and 28th (Spangler). These are worth 85 points. Make sure to have all the information in your project somewhere. All directions and requirements can be found in Google Classroom.
This week we will also be starting our study of Africa. Students did a little preview activity last week using Padlet.com to find strange and interesting facts about Africa. (Did you know that there are more internet users in New York City than in Africa? Or that it is legal to attach flamethrowers to cars to defend against carjackers?)
Welcome home to the Uganda team. We praise God for your safety and for the great work you did in Kawete. Now on with the mission here at home:
